The webspace hosting LOTTO we are all part of
Simple arithmetic reveals that to come across a non-cPanel based web hosting company is an enormous strike of luck. There is a less than one in 50 chance that an event like that will happen! Less than one in fifty...
The upsides and downsides of the cPanel-based web hosting solution
Let's not be severe with cPanel. At least, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was trendy and probably met all site hosting business requirements. In short, cPanel can achieve the desired result if you have just one single domain name to host. But, if you have more domain names...
Disadvantage Number 1: An idiotic domain name folder setup
If you have two or more domain names, though, be very attentive not to remove fully the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will call each subsequent hosted domain, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domain names are very easy to erase on the web server, since they all are set up into the root folder of the default domain name, which is the very well known public_html folder. Each add-on domain is a folder placed inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to remove the files of the add-on domains, please. Check for yourself how amazing cPanel's domain folder configuration is:
public_html (here my-default-domain.com is located)
public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain name)
Are you growing nonplussed? We definitely are!
Negative Aspect No.2: The sameemail folder configuration
The electronic mail folder configuration on the hosting server is exactly the same as that of the domains... Repeating the same error twice?!? The sysadmin guys firmly enhance their belief in God when handling the electronic mail folders on the e-mail server, praying not to botch things up too gravely.
Negative Side Number Three: A thorough shortage of domain name management sections
Do we have to mention the total deficiency of a contemporary domain administration menu - a place where you can: register/move/renew/park or administer domain names, change domains' Whois information, secure the Whois information, alter/create name servers (DNS) and Domain Name System records? cPanel does not contain such a "modern" menu at all. That's a considerable disadvantage. An inexcusable one, we want to point out...
Inconvenience Number 4: Numerous login locations (minimum 2, maximum three)
How about the necessity for an extra login to use the billing transaction, domain name and tech support management software solution? That's apart from the cPanel account login credentials you've been already provided by the cPanel web hosting firm. At times, depending on the invoicing tool (particularly designed for cPanel solely) the cPanel hosting firm is using, the keen clients can wind up with two additional logins (1: the billing/domain name administration GUI; 2: the ticket support interface), winding up with a total of three user login places (counting cPanel).
Weak Point Number Five: 120+ web space hosting CP menus to learn... fast
cPanel offers for your consideration more than 120 menus inside the webspace hosting Control Panel. It's a remarkable idea to get to know each of them. And you'd better become familiar with them rapidly... That's way too impertinent on cPanel's side.
With all due respect, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel-based web site hosting distributors:
As far as we are informed, it's not the year 2001, is it? Mark that one as well...
